Stellar Collection
For more than ten years now, AS’ART has been frequently and consciously setting up its objects and creations with Scandinavian design furniture.
These two aesthetics senses easily communicate and give to the living environment a color, a chosen orientation which resembles us.
This guideline being dear to us, we have imagined and created a population… a constellation of lights that alone sublimates this meeting of Northern Europe and South Africa.
More specifically, as we have always been in love with the Danish PH hanging lamps designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in the 1920s, and as we wanted to present objects born of this North-South, Scandinavian style-“ethnic” style, industrial object-crafted object mix of cultures, it appeared that we could divert and sublimate our telephone wire baskets by turning them into lampshades with clean lines and multiple colors, colored and luminous traces of daily life.
These telephone wire basketry from South Africa have been a staple of AS’ART for over 10 years.
Brought from figures with colorful patterns to luminous and illuminating objects, it was obvious to us to name them constellations1. Often associated with myths, constellations were used for celestial and terrestrial position and for the orientation of sailors. The name of this new collection was obvious: Stellar.
Constellation1 Group of neighboring stars on the celestial sphere to which a particular name has been given. The stars of the constellations appear to be grouped together in the night sky, but in reality, they are very far apart.
